Happy Spring! (Finally)
As you may have heard, the new sewer plant began operating early in
February. Sometime this spring we plan to have a “grand opening”
celebration of sorts at the plant for anyone who wishes to tour the
facility. It’s quite a wonder, actually. Not only does the water it sends
into the Delaware River the cleanest of any plant on the river, but it’s
said to be “cleaner” than the river water itself.
During the course of the next few months we plan to hold a series of Town
Hall meetings on Saturdays at Borough Hall to discuss major town issues,
including the new sewer rent proposal, a proposal to provide sewer and
water lines to the Hilltop neighborhood and pave those streets, public
safety (including pedestrian, cyclist and motorist safety), some “green”
initiatives and several other things.
On Saturday, March 28, however, led by members of the Environmental
Commission, the Green Team and Friends of Frenchtown Parks, we plan to head
into Borough Park (alongside the Nishisackwick Creek) for the first nature
trail maintenance day of the season. The trail, as always, sustained some
damage over the winter and we’d like to get in there to try to bring it
back to a more “user-friendly” state ahead of bird mating season. One of
the wonderful aspects of the trail is that it winds through woods and open
areas where many bird species nest in spring. Getting a jump start on trail
maintenance makes it easier for Frenchtown families to bring young children
through the area for a peek and listen to all that activity.
So join us. No signing up is necessary. Just show up anytime between 9 a.m.
and noon. (Sunday is rain, or heaven forbid SNOW day.) Bring gloves (long
pants and shirtsleeves are recommended), hand pruners, loppers, shovels,
etc… or a chain saw if you feel comfortable using it. Don’t fret if you
have no tools. There will be plenty of opportunity to simply move fallen
branches out of the way.
Lastly, the Green Team is planning the 2015 Frenchtown-wide yard sale for
the first weekend in May (Fri-Sun, May 1,2,3). So as you get into spring
cleaning mode, remember to set aside all that junk – I mean treasure – for
the big event.
Hope to see you in Borough Park on Saturday.
