Hello Frenchtown.

Monday May 26 is Memorial Day and Frenchtown’s American Legion is again hosting ceremonies and the Memorial Day Parade. Lineup is across from the school at Old Frenchtown Field at 9:30 a.m., where the parade steps off at 10. There will be gun salutes at Frenchtown Elementary School to lay a wreath at the foot of the Doughboy statue, at the Legion for remarks, at the bridge for the annual flyover and casting of flowers into the river below, and at the Frenchtown Cemetery on Trenton Avenue to pay respect. Please honor our veterans, our current soldiers and all those who have fallen in our nation’s defense by joining us on our traditional route down Harrison Street, along Bridge Street and down Trenton Avenue to the cemetery.

Thanks to everyone who attended last night’s Dana community potluck dinner at the Lovin Oven. It was a great night of delicious food, good cheer and warm welcome. We were all made to feel at home in the great Frenchtown community by organizers Moira and John of the Cross River Meditation Group, Matt of Frenchtown Acupuncture and Lovin Oven owners Julie and Mike. Kudos to all. John reminded us that the greatest gift we can give one another is our mindful presence. Plans are in the works for another Dana potluck in November. Stay tuned.

On a more mundane note, I’ll be out of town on Thursday and Friday, May 22 and 23, so 6:30 a.m. Mayor’s Office Hours on the bike path are suspended until Tuesday, May 27.

Enjoy the long weekend. See you at the parade.
