I want to share with you several Frenchtown community events planned for Thanksgiving week.
A “Dana” Community Dinner at Lovin’ Oven on Trenton Avenue is set for Tuesday, Nov. 26 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The free traditional holiday dinner and potluck is hosted by Cross River Meditation Center, Frenchtown Acupunture Clinic and Lovin’ Oven and is open to all. “Dana” is an ancient Pali word meaning giving and generosity. The dinner is an expression of generosity and loving kindness. Those of us who can are encouraged to bring a dish to share and a “practical gift.” For gift suggestions (and more information about the dinner) visit CrossRiverMeditation.com or emai DanaDinner@CrossRiverMeditation.com or call 908-628-9462. “The most valuable gift we can give each other is our mindful presence.”
Frenchtown’s second annual Chanukah Menorah lighting ceremony is Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. at the TD Bank parking lot. Chabad of Hunterdon hosts the event, which will include singing, hot potato pancakes (latkes) and chocolate Chanukah coins (gelt), holiday arts & crafts and free menorahs. “The lights of the menorah pierce the winter darkness and illuminate the whole world.”
On Thursday, Nov. 28, Yoga Loka at 34 Bridge St. (above the Frenchtown Launderette) again hosts its annual two-hour Thanksgiving yoga class, 10 a.m. to noon. The class is open to all, whether experienced yoga practitioners or first-timers. A $20 suggested donation will go to the Frenchtown Presbyterian Church food pantry. Visit yoga-loka.com or call 908-268-7430 to reserve a spot or for more information.
Brokaw Photography is hosting its second annual Family Photo Fundraiser to benefit the Frenchtown Presbyterian Church food pantry on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 29 and 30. For a $20 cash donation, which goes to the food pantry, Bill Brokaw will create a studio portrait of your family and provide you with a 5 x 7 inch print. Sittings are scheduled at 20 minute intervals from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Call 908-996-4440 to book a time slot or for more information. The studio is located at 34 Bridge St. above the Frenchtown Launderette, across from Yoga Loka.
Hope you can join us. Let us be thankful for what we have and let us remember to share what we can with others whose needs are greater than our own. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
