Borough Council reorganizes Wed Jan 7

Hello Frenchtown.

Happy New Year!

Borough Council will hold its annual reorganization meeting on Wednesday,
Jan. 7, 7:30 p.m. at Borough Hall. I hope you’ll join us.

We’ll start the meeting taking formal action to swear in the winners of the
November election, Michele Liebtag and Caroline Scutt. We’ll also formally
acknowledge the past service of former Councilmen Brad Myhre, Seth Grossman
and Robb Arent. I’ll make a few comments about 2014 and my hopes for 2015
then we’ll take care of the housekeeping business that is the hallmark of
the first meeting of the year, including selecting a Borough Council
President, appointing professionals (engineer, attorney, auditor, insurer,
etc.), naming banks, setting interest rates, etc. We’ll appoint a new
member of the Planning Board (Sarah Scott) and Council may also move to
appoint a successor to Seth Grossman, who resigned his seat on Council as
of Dec. 31.

After a short break, we’ll call the official regular meeting of Council,
during which we expect to appoint a new Fire Official for the borough
(Jerry Hoffman retired last year), confirm the Planning Board’s selection
of Frenchtown’s Planning Consultant, Elizabeth McKenzie, to draft a
redeveloper’s agreement for a proposed development on 8th and Harrison
streets and accept a settlement to pay a fine of $6,024 to the state DEP
for a sewer plant violation.

There may be discussion of some old business items, including an update on
the Wastewater Treatment Plant construction project (which should be coming
online any day now).

At the end of the regular meeting, Council will hold an Executive Session
(excluding the public) to discuss contract negotiations with the engineer
overseeing the sewer plant project, the contractor who is building the
plant and with Local PBA 188, which represents rank and file police
officers in the borough.

I hope you’ll join us on Wednesday, particularly if you’d like to share
your ideas for what Council ought to try to accomplish in 2015.

See you then.
